Release Notes

I have added a build for Visual Studio 2010 and checked the source code into CodePlex. It is available http://genesissmartclient.codeplex.com/SourceControl/list/changesets# and under the Source Code tab above.

Current Issues

  1. Installer does not automatically create applications from the virtual directories. After successfull installation, the user must open the Internet Information Services management console. Open the Default Web Site and then you will see the following virtual directories that were created by the installation: Genesis.FileHost; Genesis.Web; Genesis.WebServices; Genesis.Management.Web. Create an application for each of the virtual directories (this process will differ depending on your version of Internet Information Services. For IIS 5/6: Open virtual directory properties, on the Virtual Directory tab under the Application Settings section, click on the 'Create' button; for IIS 7: Right click on the virtual directory and click 'Convert to Application' and use the default settings.) DO NOT CHANGE the application pool from the Default App Pool
  2. Installer does not automatically create MIME types. After a successfull installation, the user must open the Internet Information Services management console. Open the Default Web site and go to its properties. You need to add a MIME type for the extension .DLLX (application/x-genesisapplication) in order for the File Host to function correctly.
  3. Installer does not automatically enable Anonymous Access for Genesis.FileHost virtual directory in Internet Information Services. Open the virtual directory properties and enable Anonymous Access to resolve this issue.
  4. 64-bit versions of Windows are supported however Genesis installs to the C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder in stead of C:\Program Files\. Please bear in mind this affects installation instructions.

Installation Instructions

  1. Download MSI for release 1.60.1024.1 from the Code Plex project page and run the installation on your computer.
  2. On the Options screen, select 'Register web sites with IIS' to automatically create the virtual directories in Internet Information Services. If this option is unchecked, you will have to manually create the virtual directories in Internet Information Services and point them to the appropriate web application folder in the C:\Program Files\Blue Marble\Genesis Smart Client Framework\ installation path. You can also choose to see a debug log of the installation after it completes.
  3. On the SQL Server screen enter the information about your SQL server installation. If you select the 'Create Database' option the username and password required will have to have admin rights on the server. The 'Create Database' process executes a series of SQL scripts that create the database on the SQL Server including the tables, stored procedures and populates the initial data set. If the 'Create Database' option is unset the provided username simply requires read access to the data.
  4. On the Windows Security screen enter your username and domain.
  5. After the above information has been provided the installation will continue to configure the Genesis Smart Client Framework.
  6. Once the framework installation is complete, follow the steps to resolve the Known Issues in the list above.
  7. After the Known Issues have been resolved open your start menu and go to the Genesis Smart Client Framework folder. Run the Database Synchronize utility. You should be presented with a screen checking OK on each option. Once this screen has loaded you can close the utility.
  8. After the database and file system have been synchronized open your start menu and go to the Genesis Smart Client Framework folder. Run the Genesis Smart Client application.
  9. Log in with username user1 and password user1

Other

  • A project template is available in Visual Studio that demonstrates a basic Genesis Hosted Application.
